Pleural, nephrostomy and abdominal drainage systems allow air or fluid to drain into a collection bag. These interventions permit the lungs to remove air, blood, and/or fluids; when fluid collects around organs in the abdomen (ascites); and or divert urine from pelvis of the kidney due by obstruction by a stone, clot, tumor or damage to the urinary system because of infection. It is important to take care of these systems to prevent complications such as tube misplacement or occlusion, damage to adjacent structures, dislodgement of the tubes and infections.
Continuity Nursing Care can help clients in the community manage drainage systems by minimizing or eliminating risk of infection, wound and insertion site care, manage tubes and collection systems and oversee your care and wellbeing in the comfort of home. Our nurses have extensive knowledge and experience caring for individuals in the community with varied drainage systems. We are guided by best practice in maintaining sterility of wounds and drainage systems that will facilitate a healthy and infection free environment for all our clients. We will develop a care plan that will ensure all your needs are addressed and reevaluate on every visit.
